Michael Upshall is Head of Business Development at UNSILO, a Danish machine-learning software company providing AI-based solutions for academic and professional publishers. In that role he has worked with several publishers both with and without an in-house taxonomy.

Michael has worked with publishers implementing content enrichment strategy for several years, including TSO, The IET, and CABI. At Cambridge University Press he managed the book and journals online platforms. He has also worked in a product role with software developers (Abacus eMedia, CSW) and has managed several projects for JISC Collections. 

He was a co-founder of reference publisher Helicon Publishing, pioneers of database-driven online reference content, and publisher of the UK’s first online encyclopedia. He writes a regular blog column, and is an experience speaker on the academic publishing conference circuit.
